A unique testimony of the capacity for resistance in the face of adversity

In their letters from the front, soldiers in the Spanish Civil War would write "Here where I am" to conceal their position. Gabriel León Honrubia (1920-2021) entered the Republican army at the age of 18 and fought in the Battle of the Ebro, one of the Civil War's bloodiest. The comic is based on the legacy Gabriel left behind: 54 letters sent to his family from the front that permit us to step into his shoes. The letters and resulting comic constitute a unique account from a very young man about his perception of the hell he had been dragged into, his capacity for resistance against adversity, and his strategies to keep his own as well as his family's mental health afloat.
